Fighting the Growing Deserts, with Livestock: Allan Savory at TED-2013

BIOGENRES
08 April 2013Animals
In this TED-2013 talk, Allan Savory presents his solution to limit desertification and climate change: to use livestock moved around to mimic the patterns of nature.

For location after location he shows two comparison photos, one using his technique, one not. The difference is a profound change. Although Savory does not refer to any specific breeds, the livestock he uses are locally adapted breeds, today  often endangered by processes of breed substitution and intensification of production systems.

The need to conserve livestock diversity is widely recognized and among FAO priorities. Since many years, CNR-IBBA develops research addressed to the conservation and sustainable use of animal genetic diversity.
